I am here now. You should be here too. The owner is serving us and we find him to be a genial host, and the food is delicious. You choose an entree of your choice and it comes with soup, salad, an appetizer of chicken bstilla, after the main course (chicken with lemon and olives was outstanding) tea and baklava all while lounging on pillows in a very authentic atmosphere. I have paid much more for much less. If you are in this town you should be here. And don't forget about the belly dancer!

Wonderful service, atmosphere, presentation, and separation between each of the courses. The food was carefully prepared and intricately spiced. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough if you're looking for an authentic Moroccan meal. While portions were small (the second course came with too few crackers to consume the spreads provided, only around 8 ounces of lamb in main entree) the quality of the food far outweighed issues I had with quantity. Cultural differences in mannerisms and hosting practices aside, if you're willing to accept and appreciate those of different backgrounds and looking to expand your horizons this restaurant offers fantastic cuisine and a practiced, knowledgeable staff.

Had an excellent meal with my crew. Since the manager said everything would be wonderful we were skeptical. We each picked out a different dinner with the intent of sharing. As the manager stated, "EVERYTHING WAS WONDERFUL". Food was excellent, service was even better. Everyone in our group was very satisfied in quality and quantity of food. Would recommend this place and already have.

From amazing ambiance to food and atmosphere, everything in this restaurant is on point. I had the five course meal which is available if you just ask, as well as some tea which was delicious. Every meal was a tasty delight that felt like it came directly from morocco. The rumor in one of the reviews about the restaurant serving a truffle from costcos is just a total lie. And the baklava they served along with a special dessert tea was delicious! I would highly recommend this place for any occasion.

Horrible! The food was mediocre, the price high, potions small (4 chicken drumsticks) the restaurant smells musty, but worst of all is the owner. I haven't met anyone who seemed so arragant and irritated in quite some time and NEVER in a service capacity (on the other hand his teen-aged assistant was lovely). When asked for a meal recommendation, he haughtily informed us that everything was excellent. Tip was included on a table of 4, likely because he knows no one would willingly tip him. I sure do miss Mataam Fez.
We went on a Sunday night for our wedding anniversary. We were one of about six couples there. I think it was the owner whom was our waiter. He was was very nice and served us pretty well. He was dressed a little casual(plaid flannel and jeans) which is not something I expected for this kindof place. The food was good, a little bit unusual for me to eat with my hands, so I made a lot of use of the napkin on my lap. It is on floor sitting on pillows by the way. My wife was full from the six course meal, but I was not. I am a pretty big eater though.

My boyfriend and I were visiting CO from New York City, and we came here for dinner with his family--making us a party of eight that included a 2-year-old. The staff was super friendly and accommodating of our party's needs, and the food was absolutely delicious. I can see Tajine Alami as a wonderful, romantic setting, and it also proved fun and easy for our large group. I wish this restaurant existed in New York. It would absolutely hold its own against the best Moroccan joints in the city. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I too had a bad experience with Tajine Alami when it came to my GROUPON. On the groupon it states that the only time it is not valid is holidays. Apparently a holiday to them is any random day. They told me I can not use my groupon because they have their own specials going on (which I did not have) I don't know if it's a language barrier or them being completely inconsiderate, but you can not change the rules on the groupon AFTER someone has purchased it. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the belly dancers are amazing and the food is decent. There customer service is horrendous and food is overpriced for what you get. I can only hope we get another Moroccan restaurant in the Springs with the same ambiance (minus the staff)

This place is amazing!! I was absolutely blown away to learn that a Moroccan place as good and authentic actually exists in Colorado. I've been several times and the food has always been delicious (We can't even find a place that makes a sweet Bastella like theirs in NYC). The ambiance and food presentation are great! Belly dancing on certain nights, a tea ceremony that would impress a contortionist, and friendly and classy service. The building is old and quirky- Thier website says it's been around since the 1920's, when it was apparently a dancing hotspot called Hiawatha Gardens, but I didn't find the place to be dirty. I'm not sure why Yelp has this listed as a $$$$ restaurant- a six course meal runs between $27 and $32, which puts it in the $$ or low $$$ category.

Everything from the food to the portions to the service to the cost is bad here. The owner seems truly apathetic towards his job. Our group had hoped for a a fun night with friends at Tajine Alami, but we ended up quite disappointed. Much of the meal is family style, so with 7 people at our table, you would think the portions would be slightly kicked up from tables that only had 2 people in their party, but that is not the case. The 6-course meal also counts a piece of bread as a course, so that is a little off-putting. I could have gotten over all of that though if the food had been good. The shared phyllo dish was absolutely hideous - completely dried out, hard chicken under a rubbery egg with dry phyllo pastry. My main dish was the $32 "rack of lamb." I asked if I could have that with cous cous since that did not normally come with the dish, and I am thankful for that because the whole entree consisted of 3 small, little pieces of meat thrown on the plate. They told me it was lamb and that is important here because it could not be differentiated from dried out pot roast - no rack in site. Others in my party paid $27 for an artichoke and some vegetables that looked bland and way overcooked. I am seriously batting my head against a wall, trying to figure out how anyone could give this place a good rating. Maybe they don't eat good food that often? Maybe they don't have much experience with ethnic cuisines so they just assume the Tajine Alami staff know what they are doing? Or...maybe they drank too much and got caught up in the moment. I eat quite a bit of ethnic food and there are so many places you could better spend your money and appetite! I am smacking myself for not taking a picture of my meal to post for my fellow yelpers, because that would surely turn everyone away and save your evening and your pocketbooks. Avoid this place like the plague - it is bad-bad-bad all around!

Ambiance: Over-the-top, highly decorated Moroccan restaurant. You enter in a lobby area that has several clothing and kitchen items for sale. Also there are several mismatched, antique chairs and a comfy couch to sit on, if waiting for the rest of your party to arrive. There is also a small bar area off to the side, that I have never seen anyone use during three visits over the past five years. Behind the lobby area is a narrow hallway for you to remove and store your shoes before entering the restaurant. There is a banquet area off to one side. The main dining room is divided into two areas, almost equal in size. You sit at low tables on pillows and cushions. Sort of tight sitting, and for those that do not like to sit "indian style" for long periods of time, you make take issue with this. Also, on Friday and Saturday nights, there is belly-dancing, that ends with an audience participation segment. Service: Very friendly. The owner, Mr Alami, comes around often to ask how things are going. There is bus person, who also comes along with bread through-out the meal (no tableware here, you eat with your hands and bread.) At two times during the meal, a communal basin is brought to your table, and everyone in your party puts their hands in it, which water is poured over everyone's hands. Also, during the tea service that comes with your dessert, your waitress will pour the tea in some very interesting and entertaining ways. Food: Your entire party needs to decide whether to order a four or six course meal (note that Bread counts as one course). We always order the six course meal, which now consists of bread, soup (vegetable or lamb options on our last visit), a couscous-like salad, a very delicious sort of puff pastry dish that is filled with a mildly spiced chicken and dusted with powered sugar, your entree, then baklava and tea for dessert. Everything is pretty good, with the exception of the entrees. Their entrees were just "ok" in the past, but have since fallen into the "not so good" category. Their chicken dishes that come in a tajine used to be large, plump chicken pieces. It is kind of deceiving, since now their chicken is not chicken, but very tiny cornish hens. These hens were WAY overcooked to the point of being very "mealy", I and one of the other people in our party could barely finish it. The saving grace was the decent sauce, which we lapped up with the bread. (Should be noted our group left still hungry, though being served six so-called courses). Overall, this place is kind of hard for me to come up with a rating. This place is super expensive, on par with what you will pay at an upscale steakhouse. The courses up to the entree are pretty good, but the entrees are not. Now with that said, when I go with a group, everyone leaves with a big smile and we all have a great time (mostly due the uniqueness and character of the place). We are usually there between two and three hours. Despite the downturn in food quality, the service is really good. So I will go with 3-stars taking the whole experience into consideration. This is more of an "event" place to go with a large group, as opposed to a regular dining spot for a couple.

We came in with a restraunt.com gift card for 15 off 30, after ordering 30$ worth of food the owner wouldn't let us use it because we didn't get the 6 course option which was no where in the certificate. It was a neat atmosphere but overpriced and the owner is not a nice man.

I am shocked by the many negative comments on this place. The wait staff is amazing and perfectly times coming to refill your glass, bread, whatever. The food is so so good. But if you don't like anything other than standard franchised food then don't go to this place, and enjoy crap food for the rest of your life. The experience is completely unlike anything you can get anywhere else. I love this place and so does my boyfriend. You would be fool to not check this place out. The only thing is that I really feel like everything could use a good cleaning, other than that FANTASTIC.

Less-Roccan. This review does not include the belly dancer, she was great. We decided to try this place for a large group, one of our friends birthday. We are all vegetarian and they have a vegetarian 6 and 4 course meal with about 8 main course options. The food is okay, they have Moroccan beer and wine and the waitress was very nice. This was going to be a 3 star review until the owner spoke. He seemed annoyed we were there. He's quite cold and very uninviting and when we were figuring out how to split the check he left and told me to "just take it to the bar." This was down right rude. That lost him a star. Then when I went to the bathroom and inspected the rest of the restaurant it is very run down and unkempt. That lost him the second second star. His website info is incorrect and he would not honor what it said which threw a wrench in our plan. Our bill came to $169 for 5 people (one person only had a beer). For the elegant prices this place charges the restaurant needs to be cleaned, routine maintenance preformed and the owner needs to at least be professional since it seems to cause him physical pain to smile. Try Moroccan for sure but in a different city.

The previous reviews are more than harsh; I don't know if the 1 and 2 star reviews are the applebees regulars or what but the food at Tajine Alami is great. Got 6 courses and had the lamb special. It was really flavorful. My husband had the spicy chicken tajine which was very good. Entrees were the best part imho. Soup, bread, and tea were very good. My least favorite was the chicken phyllo but I'm not a huge fan of anything phyllo so that's to be expected. Service was spot on. Decor was authentic - if any of the reviewers had been to Northern Africa/Middle East maybe they'd get it. Tajine Alami is really good, if you are looking for good Moroccan food. The drawback here, is the price - for Colorado Springs, it's pricey.

The belly dancer was awkward but entertaining. I wasn't really expecting a belly dancer, and it is awkward sitting with a girlfriend while some dancer executes a move in which essentially only her breasts are spinning around and around. The owner was rather snarky. The food was kind of expensive for the portions given. No a la carte despite website statement. Just felt all around kind of bogus. Another thing is, if you know how much cous-cous costs, you would probably not care to pay fourteen dollars for one dollar's worth of cous-cous with some veggies on top.

Great atmosphere and tasty food! It is a little pricey, but very much worth it. I really enjoyed the shrimp and couscous, plus the bread was delicious. Not somewhere I could go everyday, but great for special occasions!

On their website, they make it look like a choice between a 6-course meal, 3-course meal, or a la carte. Not so in real life. We were given a menu for 6-course meal only, with no offer for any other option. So here was our 6-course meal: 1. Soup. Just a broth for vegetarian option. Not too exciting. 2. Slice of bread (that's a course?) 3. Salad--to share. Pretty small, but tasty, tiny amount of hummus and some greens. 4. Bastilla, probably the best part of the meal. 5. Entree, meat for me, veggies for the husband. Pretty good stuff. 6. The menu said baklava. In real life, it was a single tiny chocolate truffle from Costco. For real? It made us laugh. I mean, Costco sells baklava too. I've had a bigger "course" as part of a little treat restaurants sometimes bring you with a bill. The service, as someone said previously, was "stern but polite". The place is gorgeous. But the bait-and-switch wasn't cool. We didn't walk out of there hungry, but had to have a snack later at home. it was worth a visit, I think, but it's unlikely they'll get me as a repeat customer.

2012 Review #357: I've been here twice but the first visit was several years ago. I came here tonight for a family meal and was surprised by the negative reviews. Most negative reviews center on the price. Although I agree the prices are a bit high, it's important to remember that this is 3-4 big courses. The menu claims 6 but one of those is bread and the soup and dessert courses are small. I will say that most every course was very tasty. The vegetarian soup and vegetarian entree were both spicy and flavorful. The hot and spicy chicken was as it claimed to be- but be advised they keep the skin on and it's basically steamed so that's not super pleasant. The bastilla seemed to be lacking any chicken but I'm not much bothered by that. This is a middle eastern restaurant that actually sells alcohol, including Moroccan beer and wine. I tried both and both were very nice and reasonably priced. One in our group didn't like the wine and they very kindly took care of it and replaced it. Our service was prompt and kept up with refills and needs throughout. This is not a cheap meal but I do think it's a worthwhile meal and it's a nice environment.

Totally overpriced and the owner is a totally rude idiot. Had a party of 8 for a birthday and after 20 minutes without drinks we flagged down the owner and he comes to take our order with "what you want?" service was this bad all night and I had to go to mcdonalds after dropping big $ at this crap hole! Places like this deserve to go under so do him the favor of making sure he never has to wait another table again.

We have eaten here twice and have left satisfied with the service as well as stuffed with tasty food both times. The salad course was different on our last visit from our first in that our most recent visit had tabbouleh, hummus, marinated eggplant, and some sort of pickled carrot salad (the first visit was only tabbouleh and hummus.) I am not one for carrots or anything pickled, but these were amazing! I had lamb dishes on both occasions as the main course and I think both dishes were quite possibly the most tender and tasty lamb I've had. My boyfriend had chicken and artichoke the first time and a shrimp dish on our last visit. Both were very flavorful and well cooked. I've seen multiple comments about the owner. We did not share in any negative experience others may have had. He was very pleasant with us, made recommendations when asked, and was on the ball with service. This place is a bit on the pricey side, but for a special treat once in a while, it is well worth it!

Well technically it was chicken the menu said chicken with lemon but was more like a Cornish hen. The food was good no flat bread for the couscous but we did get bread that reshaped my gums and a molar. Over priced for the portion. The waitress was great and poured a great tea. Again food was tasty but seems like they were giving the minimum service to get by. Avoid this place at all cost until their service and dishes come up to par with what they are charging, Garbanzos is a much better choice.

Very nice place. My husband and I had dinner last Thursday and LOVED the service and food. You can't go wrong with the chicken tanjine! Oh and you must try the mint tea! Perfect for a cold evening. We'll definitely have dinner there again.

Ridiculously overpriced. The atmosphere, decor, and floor seating made for a pleasant experience, but the quality of food was quite poor. The most savory portion of our dinner was the tea served as the last course. The entree, lamb served in a honey almond sauce, was very dry, and tasted as if it had been sitting around all day. Although the atmosphere was nice, I won't be back. Our bill for two came to $80, and each of us only had one drink. The food was simply not good enough to warrant the price.

I stumbled across this place while attending a wedding in the park in Manitou Springs and saw this little Moroccan place tucked in under the trees. I have actually been to Tajine Alami twice and the reviews I have read are mixed. Either people love the place, or think it is rotten. Honestly, there are good and bad and both need to be considered. The good: the décor is pretty cool, the belly dancers are awesome and fun, and the food is relatively good with lots of spice and different yummy flavors to try. The waitresses are nice and they try really hard. The experience is something unlike anywhere else. You get to take off your shoes and eat with your hands! Now, for the bad. It is rather expensive. The place definitely needs some upkeep and is NOT clean. I think it would be hard to clean all of the pillows and draperies; however, the dirt and grime isn't acceptable. There's a standard of restaurant cleanliness and when the floor isn't clean, that makes me a little uncomfortable about what the kitchen looks like. I would say that this place is kind of romantic, but the tables are a bit close together so there isn't much privacy. There's also been some comments on the owner and I think he has a stern, but polite manner. I think this is part of the culture and I don't think he means anything personally. There are some great places in Denver if you want to experience a much finer experience. I was a fan of Mataam Fez when it was here in the Springs (and there is one in Denver, but I haven't been to it) and have been to House of Marrakesh and it was fabulous, but I just looked it up and it has been closed due to high rent downtown. For the atmosphere and the food, I'd say it is worth digging in your wallet for a one-time event. It is a sight to be seen. I recommend that you go at least once if you've never been to a Moroccan restaurant. Also, you want to be there when the belly dancers are there, so call and ask for the schedule when making a reservation.

I ate here the first time in 95 and was shocked it was still here! Love the ambience, food was great and the owner very nice. It is a bit pricey but what would you expect from a six course dinner? Thoroughly enjoyed over and over and over.

Splendid atmosphere, rich in culture, attentive friendly service, deeeelicious food. A delightful step out of the ordinary.
